The SCDNR Scholastic Clay Target Sports held the first of three Championships to determine the winner of the prestigious State Governor’s Cup on Friday, February 7th. The event was held at the NWTF Palmetto Shooting Complex located in Edgefield, SC. The Male Senior Varsity squad was filled with Grayson Dixon and Jack Wiseman both from Emerald High School and Grant Whitehead from Greenwood High. Emerald Clay Team is open to all students who attend school in Greenwood County.

Emerald shooters competed against ten squads comprised of the best athletes from all over the State, all of whom had to qualify for the invitation to compete for the Trap Championship. Teams converged Friday morning on site to a cold and extremely windy tournament. Through the SCDNR Scholastic Clay Program and donations, the SCDNR gave away over $13,000 in scholarships and several thousand dollars worth of prizes.
