The Emerald Girls XC team competed in the AAA State Finals yesterday. The meet was hosted at the Springdale Racecourse in Camden. The girls performed well after enduring a long season that started in August and included 10 races. They maintained their focus and composure in spite of the meet being rescheduled to a Tuesday afternoon. Zoe Vickery had the best individual finish in 23rd place, leading the team to a 13th place finish. Cierra Friez had the lone lifetime best performance, running 21:52 in 51st place.
Analyzing the 2019 season, it is clear that the girls have made significant improvements. Consider the fact that the girls competed in their second straight State Finals after failing to field a full team in 2017. Here are three more statistics that show their improvement:
- The girls improved from 14th (2018) to 13th at the State Finals.
- Their average time improved from 23:24 (2018) to 22:37 at the State Finals.
- Their average time improved from 24:08 (Coaches’ Classic) to 22:37 this season at the Springdale Racecourse.
