Unified Sporting Clays · Emerald Clay Team competes in the SCTP Trap Qualifier at Palmetto Shooting Complex in Edgefield, SC

The Emerald Clay Team traveled to the NWTF Palmetto Shooting Complex located in Edgefield, S.C to compete in the qualifier for the State Championship in the Trap shooting discipline. The Edgefield location was one of three locations across the State that was utilized to qualify athletes from all over South Carolina. The Emerald Clay Team had 25 athletes from its roster of 31 participate in the 4 rounds of 25 targets.

Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) along with the South Carolina 4-H organized and hosted this year’s event. The top shooters from across the State will qualify for the chance to compete in the SCTP State Championship on November 9th.

Trapshooting is a specific form of clay target shooting. Trap is a game of movement, action and split-second timing. It requires accuracy and skill to repeatedly aim, fire and break the 4 1/4 inch orange disc. Shooters are positioned 16 yards behind the trap house from which all birds are hurled through the air at a speed of 42mph, simulating the flight path of a bird fleeing a hunter.

Our best Intermediate/Entry Level shooter was Ryan Burrell who shot a 57, Jackson Williams was our best Intermediate/Advanced shooter and shot a 60. Grant Whitehead brought home the best Junior Varsity Shooter title. Grayson Dixon recorded a score of 82 which was the Team’s highest and earned the best Senior Varsity Shooter. Rounding out all the divisions was Ben Kinney who shot a 69 to take home the best Collegiate Shooter.
