3 members of the Emerald Track Team competed at the State Finals at Spring Valley this weekend. These three athletes performed well enough to secure a 9th place team finish among all AAA schools.
Elizabeth Self – Triple Jump (1st place – 36’9.5”) , 100H (2nd place – 15.94)
Elizabeth Self competed in her 4th State Finals. Her athleticism has seen her compete at State in the 4x800m, long jump, triple jump, 100m hurdles, and 400m hurdles. Last year she secured a State Championship in the 400m hurdles. It is difficult to improve upon a state championship season, but Elizabeth accomplished this impressive feat with a State-Runner Up finish in the 100m hurdles and a State Championship in another event (triple jump).
Haley McLaughlin – Pole Vault (2nd place – 10’0”)
Haley McLaughlin competed in pole vault at the State Finals for the 4th year in a row. Her previous finishes were 5th, 4th, 4th respectively. She broke through with a commanding performance including clean attempts at 9-0, 9-6, and 10-0. 10-0 was good enough to secure a State Runner-Up finish for Haley.
Rose Whitt – 800m (7th place – 2:33)
Freshman Rose Whitt made the most of her first State Championship appearance with a 7th place finish in the 800m. She ran a tactically sound race and held on in spite of a race that started out quickly.
