On behalf of their friends, family, and fans we wish them the best of luck this weekend. They embody the courageous spirit of Viking student athletes.

KOBY MOORE

Wrestling v Seneca & Indian Land 1698

  • What is your favorite memory from this wrestling season? Going to hotels with my teammates and spending that extra time doing whatever we want
  • What makes you a good wrestler? Dedication, discipline, and the willingness to keep going when things seem impossible
  • What is your mental strategy heading into the weekend? To be as aggressive as I can be and give nothing up and win
  • What are your goals for the weekend? Make it the finals. I want to take it step by step so even if I don’t win state, I’ve made it far and won hard matches.

JACOB CALLAHAN

Wrestling v WestOak 486

  • What is your favorite memory from this wrestling season? Just being able to wrestle with guys I have been wrestling with for 10 years. Winning together, and staying in the hotel; also staying up late eating food knowing we shouldn’t be, and goofing off.
  • What makes you a good wrestler? My determination and diligence in the practice room
  • What is your mental strategy heading into the weekend?  Just go have fun. All the hard work is done, I’ve made it to state. I’ve put in work all season and now it’s just a matter of me going to do what I’ve done over half my life. Wrestle.
  • What are your goals for the weekend? Place in the top three

JAYLON MCCASLAN

Wrestling @ Lakelands 800

  • What is your favorite memory from this wrestling season? When I beat the 4th ranked kid from Crescent to make into state.
  • What makes you a good wrestler?  You have to have confidence, be tenacious, be strong minded, and have fun doing what you do.
  • What is your mental strategy heading into the weekend? Stay calm, relax and have fun
  • What are your goals for the weekend? Since it my first time, at least place in the top 4, but really top 3

LUKE NEWTON

Wrestling v Seneca & Indian Land 1230

  • What is your favorite memory from this wrestling season? Winning the Southern Slam tournament early in the year.
  • What makes you a good wrestler? Wrestling for twelve years has made me a good wrestler, and I’ve had the same practice partner, Jacob Callahan for ten of those.  I’ve also had my brothers Adam and Zane to wrestle with.
  • What is your mental strategy heading into the weekend? This is the year and I’m just going to roll with it.
  • What are your goals for the weekend? My goal is to win state.

NICK LONG

Wrestling v WestOak 178

  • What is your favorite memory from this wrestling season? All the cutting weight for Friday and Saturday tournaments, going to eat at Zaxby’s and sitting with Coach Wright talking about what I can do better next time we wrestle.
  • What makes you a good wrestler? I’m competitive and aggressive but also because the coaches and my teammates put in the time with me at practice to learn and become a better wrestler.
  • What is your mental strategy heading into the weekend? I’m just trying to stay focused on what’s ahead. I know I have to just go out and be me. I have to use what I’ve learned and be the best version of me. I can’t look ahead at the next round, I’ve just gotta take it one round at a time this weekend.
  • What are your goals for the weekend? Bring the State championship back to Emerald with me. This weekend is for my grandpa who loved to watch me wrestle but is no longer with me as he went to visit the Lord last summer.

CONNER PIRKLE

Wrestling v Seneca & Indian Land 844

  • What is your favorite memory from this wrestling season? Just being on the mat, knowing that it was my last season, I tried to make every one count, as well as have fun.
  • What makes you a good wrestler?  My hard work and the drive to complete my goal, which was make it back to the finals.
  • What is your mental strategy heading into the weekend? To keep my head clear. When I’m warming up I always dance to my music. It helps relax me and at the same time it helps me to go through my match in my head.
  • What are your goals for the weekend? My goal is to not give up a point, as well as take home the title I felt I deserved last year.
