Elizabeth Self entered the 400m hurdles race at Saturday’s AAA Track & Field State Finals facing a tough challenge. She had already competed in the long jump (4th place) Friday night and the 100m hurdles (6th place) an hour before she lined up to compete. She was listed as the 5th-place seed for the race. She got out to a quick start and was with the leaders. She rounded the 200m mark and moved to the front of the pack. She powered through the final two sets of hurdles to secure a personal best time of 1:06.11. This mark also met the standard for an All-State performance. Elizabeth is the first individual state champion in Girls’ Track & Field at Emerald High School in 16 years.
